Chiastolite Tumble

Chiastolite, also known as the "Cross Stone" or "Andalusite," is a unique and fascinating mineral known for its distinctive cross-shaped pattern, visible when the stone is cut or broken. It is a variety of andalusite, which is an aluminum-bearing silicate mineral.

The most prominent feature of chiastolite is its cross-shaped inclusion, which is formed by carbonaceous material, typically graphite, within the crystal structure. When viewed in cross-section, these inclusions create a cross-like pattern, hence the name "Cross Stone." The cross may vary in color, ranging from gray to brown or black, contrasting with the stone's lighter color.

The crystal's base color can vary and is often in shades of brown, gray, green, or reddish-brown. Chiastolite is usually translucent to opaque, with a vitreous to resinous luster when polished.

These stones have a natural feel to them, they have been lightly tumbled, and feel soft to the touch. Not all Chiastolite will have a clearly defined "cross" section.
